Robo-Project

In Fall 2004 along with two teammates we ordered, assembled, and programmed a rogue blue ers robotic kit as part of the coursework for the Artificial Intelligence Approach to Robotics (COS 399) course. The course was under the supervision of Prof. Volin Karagiozov.

Here we are assembling the robot kit.

(1) Unpack and mount servos + wheels

(2) Mount electronics and connect them

(3) And off to the lab for testing

(4) Our mean-looking cross-eyed creation:

During the semester we programmed the robot with several different algorithms for moving around. We also experimented with different settings for the sensors.
We developed several versions of the Avoid Obstacles program and used the best one to develop the Maze Solver (where the robot enters a maze and keeps on following either the left or the right wall until it comes out).

We developed a program for remote control of the robot, which pretty much turned it into RC toy car, a program for tuning of the infra-red sensors with display on a PC monitor, seek-light and avoid light programs. We also used the voice recognition module to give it simple commands.

For Senior Project 2 next semester I want to do a project involving Computer Vision because it offers powerful methods for recognition of objects and complements other methods for determining safe way of advance of robotic systems.

Here is an article defacto made on the robot in the beginning of the semester.
